New windows and doors

Finally. Just 6 months after we closed on our home in 2017, hurricane Irma reminded us of the potential of severe weather. We didn't have any shutters or plywood at this time and were pretty lucky. We got plywood for the next season and had to use it twice since. We always had it on our list but it just didn't work out.

Now, eventually, we saw a chance to take action and get the windows replaced. We met with numerous contractors to get quotes and discuss options in October. We had everything from contractors who tried to push us to sign a contract on the spot, to contractors that promised everything but couldn't quite convince us. As usual, you don't necessarily go with the cheapest, nor with the most expensive but it comes down to which you have the best feeling with. We made our decision but were still somewhat uncomfortable with the idea having huge holes in the walls for some time.

As you may have guessed, we didn't just replace old windows/doors with hurricane impact windows/doors but took the chance to make further improvements. Since the closing of the house we wanted to give the house a bright, light-flooded appeal. So we squared off the arch windows in the kitchen, chose doors with full glass panels and converted the windows in the back to a sliding door. So much more light!!! 😎
